Léa Glotin

National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations (INALCO), Paris

My name is Léa Glotin. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Chinese Studies from the National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations (INALCO) in Paris, having completed my undergraduate studies. During my Bachelor’s program, I specialized in two distinct tracks: Gender Studies and Global Political Issues. Presently, I am pursuing a Master’s degree in International Relations at Paris Cergy University. I harbor a profound passion for languages, particularly the Chinese language, which led me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Chinese Studies. This program has equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of Chinese culture, history, geography, as well as political relations and conflicts.

I am an individual who stays informed about current affairs globally, with a particular focus on Asia. Driven by my dedication to my professional career and studies, I am a hardworking and serious individual. My academic journey in Chinese Studies, combined with my focus on Gender Studies and Global Political Issues, has provided me with a solid foundation to approach cross-cultural inquiries. As a student in International Relations, I am particularly drawn to observing and analyzing conflicts worldwide, with a specific focus on human rights concerns. I am eager to specialize my studies in the master’s program in Asia-Pacific Studies, to acquire the robust skills necessary for my future endeavours.

Nattamon Sirivattanayotin

Thammasat University, Thailand

I am Nattamon Sirivattanayotin, 彦琳, currently a senior year student at Pridi Banomyong International College, Thammasat University in Thailand. By the end of May 2024, I expect to graduate with a first-class honors degree in Chinese Studies. Throughout my four years at Thammasat University, the Chinese Studies program provided me with comprehensive knowledge about China, encompassing language proficiency, literature, history, culture, and politics. In my junior year, I had a great opportunity to become an exchange student at the School of International Studies at Peking University, China. A transformative experience unfolded when several courses I participated in in past four years sparked my deeper interest in a more specific field of study in Cross-Strait and Taiwan studies—a field that became the main theme of my undergraduate Thesis. I wrote my undergraduate Thesis on Taiwan-Thailand relations under the title “Analyzing Diplomatic Adjustments in Taiwan-Thailand Relations in the Context of One China Policy: A Case Study on Chinese Government’s Discontent”.

During my research process, I uncovered a gap in Thai academic literature concerning Thailand-Taiwan relations, as there are not many academic articles regarding Taiwan published in Thailand. Such challenges have fueled my determination to pursue a master’s degree in Taiwan to broaden my knowledge and delve deeper into Thai-Taiwan cooperation and Taiwan’s relations with other Southeast Asian countries. In order to advance my undergraduate research, I aspire to conduct a comparative analysis of Taiwan’s trend of fostering bilateral relations with Thailand and Thailand’s neighboring countries which will give me a new and broader perspective on the promotion of Taiwan’s relations among Southeast Asian nations and will lead to noteworthy aspects of Thai-Taiwan ties that might be distinctive from those of other countries.

With highly experienced lecturers and a variety of courses that will be helpful for my research, I strongly believe that pursuing studies at IMAS will help me to deepen my knowledge and ultimately achieve my ultimate goal of publishing high-quality research on Thai-Taiwan relations. And I look forward to enjoying valuable time, meeting new friends, improving my language skills, and exploring new experiences at IMAS, NCCU.
